Please could you tell us a little bit about yourself and the role of music in your life up until now?
My name is Samson Jatto, I’m from London, I am a session drummer and have been playing professionally for 12 years.
What/who inspired you to want to become a musician?
I didn’t actually study music at uni. I studied finance. When I was 18 I went to a jam session and met some musicians. When I asked these guys, what did they do for a living outside of music I was surprised when they told me they made their living from music. From this point on I began to pursue a career in music.
Could you share with us a musical and/or life highlight? How did it make you feel?
The biggest highlight so far would be headlining the BRIT Awards with DAVE in 2022. Fully live on TV with a bunch of other featured artists, a massive choir and flames coming out of the guitars lol. The whole production of the show was pretty epic.
Could you say a few words about how music relates to mental health from your perspective?
For me it’s important to do whatever it is you’re passionate about. It doesn’t have to be your job. It can be a hobby. Music is what I’m most passionate about and working at it daily is what makes me feel alive and comfortable within myself.
What do you feel you can offer to a participant? What are your areas of special interest?!
I feel I can inspire participants to be able to motivate themselves to achieve whatever goals they have. To be able to create easy small targets to work towards and also to learn to feel content with whatever it is they have going on for them in this moment.
Why is being part of Seed Sessions important to you?
It’s important to me because I met Toby a couple of times and he was a lovely person. I’ve known a couple of people who have tragically taken their lives and know many suffering and trying their best to recover.
